Featured Artist - July - Meet Helen Lopez

Helen Lopez was born in London and her artistic talent was realised at a very early age. At school, Helen took to painting naturally and excelled in art and litrature. Helen then went on to study art in Chelsea before moving north to further her studies in fine art in Liverpool. After graduating Helen returned south only for a few months before following her dream of living by the sea and moving to the beautiful isle of Anglesey, just off the North Wales coast.

Helen has now been living on the isle of Anglesey for seventeen years. She lives with her husband and fellow artist, Jonathan and their three teenage children, who are all budding artists in their own right.

Helen's early work consists of large figurative nudes and Helen admits that her inspiration often seemed to flow straight from her subconcious on to canvas. Helen recalls times where she would stare at a blank page, make a few marks and by the end of the day having a finished piece.

Her later work has been strongly influenced
by the fabulous landscape surrounding her home and studio, situated on Menai Straits, just feet from the waters-edge, from which on a clear day, has spectacular views of the Snowdonia mountain range.

Helen is now trying to combine her natural
talent and instictive feel for colour & mood with observation from real life, working with both landscape and figures.

A sub-heading, maybe

The photo pictures Helen on her favourite beach. A rugged beach, dotted with dunes of soft white sand and widswept sea grass, typical of many of the beaches found along the Anglesey coast.

Helen's main exhibitions have been at Williamson Art Gallery, Museum Birkenhead 200 and Oriel Ynys Mon 2003. If you would like to visit Anglesey, Helen's work is often exhibited in galleries on the island, in north Wales and in the North West of England.
