Art is not about what someone else thinks, whether a piece is good or bad is almost entirely down to the viewer. Art evokes the senses, the feelings you get when looking at a piece is what is important. For example, when looking at a painting does it make you feel calm, warm, cold, angry, energised, sleepy, happy ? The feelings a piece of art gives to the viewer may vary from person to person depending on their own experiences, likes & dislikes.

Each month 2 pieces of art from the Originals website will be appraised by a panel of 4 people. This panel will be made up of people with little or no known experience in art appreciation, varying in ages and social background.

This month's panel are:

Claire Denman (36)

Housewife, History & architecture scholar & mother of two.

Colin Thomas (61) Retired businessman. Keen golfer and family man.
Molly O'Hara (15) School pupil & Horse rider
Philip Charman  (32) Airport Check- in agent. Serious cyclist & keen sportsman.

I feel very relaxed when I look at this picture.Like arriving home in the evening after a long cycle ride. Overall I get a sense of warmth and peaceful silence.

This picture reminds me of my trips to France. Looking at this picture I almost feel that I'm there. I can smell the earth and hear the birds & tractor in the background. If this picture was hung in a restaurant it would certainly whet my appetite.

Looking at this picture is like looking out of a window very early in the morning on a summers day, just as the sun is about to rise and the birds have started to sing.

The rich colours give the picture an African feel. I can imagine a hot, dusty wind, gently blowing through the trees. This picture would look good, next to a table in a restaurant.
